Viggo: I got lucky Pa72704175x1755033920jy7

Viggo Mortensen is very matter of fact when he talks about his life changing role as Aragorn in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy - saying he just "got lucky".
"I was 45 when it happened and had been working steadily in films and theatre before that, then something comes along and you just get lucky," said the actor, who is currently starring in Russian gangster flick Eastern Promises.

"It changed my life because of the friendships I made and memories I now have. But the main thing is that it helped me to get roles like this, because it did so well we all got the chance to do other things."

The enigmatic star, who plays a driver working for one of London's established crime families in his new movie, hasn't ruled out the possibility of Aragorn's return.
"I heard talk of a Hobbit film and, yes I'm curious about it," he said.
"I don't know where Aragorn would fit into that, but if it happens then Peter Jackson would be the best person to direct it."

Eastern Promises opened the London Film Festival with a glitzy premiere in Leicester Square last week.

Ok, I'll try again!

Yes, of course! I have read that Viggo gets a lot of different manuscripts so he can choose among them and decide which part he wants to play. I guess the more complicated a part is the better Viggo likes it.

yes now he is doing On the Road, and I read the Beat poets a looooong time ago, as well as LOTR, so one thing is known to me is he brings movies to life that I've wanted to see onscreen for a long long time!! Smile

I would have liked Viggo to play Mikael Blomqvist in the Stieg Larson trilogy. But they found another to have this part.

The other part is in 2 Danish books by the author Jens Henrik Jensen: "Ôkseskibet" (The Axship) and "Kulmanden" (The Coal man). I'm sorry they are remaking the site so the English and German parts aren't ready yet.

They are international crime detective stories. The main character is a young, Danish police woman called Nina Portland. A part of the stories takes part in a town in Jutland (Denmark) called Esbjerg. It's at the westcoast. To help her to pull in the right threads abroad she has a former MI-6 man, Sir Walter Draycott. That's where Viggo comes into the film. He is a widower, a loner with a Spaniel called Molly, has a cottage in the Isle of Sky where he writes poetry and a flat in London. His only child, a daughter, lives with her family in South Africa. He likes Nina very much because she reminds him of his daughter. He is somewhere in the late 50's or early 60's and Nina is around 30. As far as I rememeber Sir Walter Draycott is a tall and thin man. So you see Viggo is the perfect for this part. It may not be the largest part but an important not leading part. Sir Walter Draycott was very close to becomming the leader of MI-6 but he decided to retire instead. And of course they have to be international films as all the people abroad don't speak Danish. I could see Danish Iben Hjejle in the main character and a mix of Danish and foreign actors/actress where they fit into the characters.

Oh, I wish they will make films out of the books. And I have just discovered that there is a third book about Nina Portland, too. It's called "Spögelsesfangen" The Ghost prisoner. I'm sure it's as exciting and dramatic to read as the 2 other books.

I don't even know if they are translated to English. So I'm not sure you have read them.
