'Eastern' ads promise the 'legendary'

Newspaper ads for "Eastern Promises" contain the usual critics' blurbs and laurels.

But some also make a point of touting a specific moment of the film with the intriguing pitch: "Don't miss the legendary scene that has audiences cheering and critics raving."

The "legendary scene" is a big moment in the film, one in which star Viggo Mortensen dukes it out with some baddies in a steam room ... largely in the nude.

"It's hard not to talk about that scene," says Focus Features marketing prexy David Brooks, who praises helmer David Cronenberg's bravura filmmaking and that scene in particular. "There's nothing to be shy about promoting that moment."
