I started this topic for everyone around the world to share their special holidays, celebrations so we can all learn more of each others' cultures. In North American October 31st is celebrated in many ways.

Happy Hallowe'en from Canada!

Tonight children will disguise themselves and go door to door and will be collecting candy. They will say either Trick or Treat or they will say Happy Hallowe'en! For most kids, it is the best time of the year. Very Happy

From one of my favourite little animals:

Greetings from around the world! Bat

And a few ghosts and goblins!

Some people here in Denmark have also started to celebrate Halloween. But it's a very new custom here. And I wasn't prepared when 3 children stood outside my frontdoor and asked for sweet. So I'm afraid I had nothing to give them.

It's more normal that we celebrate our "Halloween" called "Fastelavn" = Shrowtide in February. Then the children dress out and go to their schools to "Beat the cat off the barrel" (in the old days there was a real living cat into the barrel - nowadays the barrel is filled with sweet for the children). Later the children walk from door to door (like at Halloween) and sing a llittle song to make people pay them a little money so they can buy Shrowtide cream buns for the money. It's a kind of sweet buns which taste very good.

The children sing:
Fastelavn er mit navn,
boller vil jeg have.
Hvis jeg ingen boller får,
så laver jeg ballade.

Translation:
Shrowtide is my name,
buns I will have.
If I no buns get,
I will make a trouble.

Of course they don't make trouble. It's just to make the song text rhyme.

Oh, I'm sorry!! I forgot to wish you all a HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!
